Can’t wait for the World Series to start now that the San Francisco Giants beat the Phillies on Saturday. It was fun watching the game on Saturday even though for me it was one game too late since I did goto Game 5 against the Phillies at the AT&T Park. It was lot of fun watching a playoff game at one of the best ball parks. The atmosphere was electric, fans were just amazing (it was great to see so man kids in attendance as well) and the game was very good although wish that the Giants had won.

Now I am looking forward to the World Series coming to the Bay Area. Go GIANTS!!

BTW can’t say enough about how convenient is CalTran for getting to the AT&T Park from San Carlos/Belmont area. For Game 5, I took the train from the San Carlos station and was at the stadium in my seat in an hour! So if I do get tickets to one of the World Series games then I am sure going to take the train again.

I always worry about what my almost 8-year old daughter gets exposed to on the web. I want to make sure that she knows about what is going on in the world and keeps up with the current affairs but it is hard to find web sites or TV programs where appropriate content is not linked next to an inappropriate content for her age group. Luckily, I recently came across a nice web site that provides news content for youngsters and might be a good resource for kids who want to follow the news and keep up with the world affairs.

Youngzine is an online news website that presents current events in politics, science, technology and more to children aged 8-15 in an accessible, unbiased and engaging manner. It teaches timeless concepts through articles, pictures and videos. Youngzine seems to be a clean, well-lit portal that brings the best of the web to kids, without the risk of running into inappropriate or sensational content.

This website maybe worth a try since it seems to solve the issue of getting news to the youngsters without any offending content. Thanks to the parents who put this great website together.

Last week I attended the Redwood City PortFest at the Port of Redwood City. It was so nice to see such a great event right in our backyard. The weather was perfect and there were lot of activities for the kids including pancake breakfast, fire engine tour, boat tour of the port, local music, family treasure hunt, marine science institute booth (my kids loved the crabs and fishes in the exhibit) and many other exhibits. There also was a ferry that is planning a commercial service from Redwood City Port to Ferry Building in San Francisco although they think it won’t be ready till 2015 so I guess we will have to wait for sometime – could have definitely used it for a trip to San Francisco this weekend for the Blue Angels.

Another useful booth was the Redwood City Police booth where they were fingerprinting kids to help parents have that information handy so in case of an unfortunate event of kidnapping a parent has the key information about the child handy and can provide it to the police to use in an Amber Alert. I think this is a great service that the police officers are offering to increase awareness so that parents are prepared and can help the police in case of emergency.

Overall this was a great event I hope the Redwood City decides to do this again next year.
